Chapter Sixteen

Christmas arrived a week later and everyone had moved into a cabin in the back of the hotel. After they were all moved in, they started getting the cabin ready for Christmas. “Wow... I think we might’ve went a little overboard on decorating.” Hayner said. Everyone started laughing.

“We still have one last thing to do,” Naminé said. She pulled the Christmas Star out of a box and handed it to Allie, “Allie, will you do the honors?” she asked.

“Sure,” Allie said. She got up on a chair that was next to the tree and gently put the star on the tree, then she jumped down next to her friends. “Merry Christmas, everyone.” Allie said.

Later that night everyone sat inside listening to Christmas music. Allie and Riku were starting a fire in the fireplace.

“Dashing through the snow, in a one horse open sleigh,

What fun it is to laugh and sing a sleighing song tonight,” Allie started singing.

“See, you can sing!” Selphie said.

“Fine, I’ll sing while the presents are getting opened.” Allie said. She got up to the microphone and the karaoke machine and picked a song. She started singing the song ‘Keep Your Mind Wide Open’ by Annasophia Robb.

Everyone applauded and continued to open their presents. “Here’s one for Allie.” Olette said as she tossed one present to Allie.

Allie caught it and read who it was from. “Naminé...” she read and opened it. “A friendship bracelet! Thank you, Naminé!” Allie said. She hugged Naminé who was sitting next to her.

“You’re welcome.” Naminé said.

“Here’s one for Naminé.” Selphie said and handed it to her. It was from Roxas.

When Naminé opened it, she was speechless. “It’s... Roxas, how did you..?”

“I used Pence’s camera that night.” Roxas said.

“Really?” Naminé asked as she looked at the picture of herself on the night of the homecoming dance.

“Here’s one for me.” Selphie said.

Later that night, Naminé walked outside. Roxas... Why? How come every time I’m near him, everything and everyone just seems to disappear? I think I do like him, but if I do... What if he doesn’t like me? What then? And what if he does? What if we break up, what happens to our friendship? Naminé asked herself. She fell back in the snow. What’s going on? she asked herself.

“Naminé?” a voice asked.

When Naminé lifted her head from the snow she saw Roxas. “Roxas? I was just... Oh, who am I kidding. I’m an idiot!” she said and laid her head back down. She tried getting up but it felt like the snow was pulling her deeper and deeper and it wouldn’t let her go, almost like quicksand.

“Do you want some help?” Roxas asked.

“Yes, please!” Naminé said as she reached her hand out to his. He pulled her up and she shook off the snow.

The two started walking to the back of the cabin but not very far. “Roxas, thank you for the Christmas present, and thanks for putting up with me. You know, with me being your roommate and all.” Naminé said. Roxas didn’t say anything. “Roxas? Did you not just hear anything I just said?” Naminé asked.

“Huh?” Roxas asked as he looked at her.

Naminé made a simple reply by picking up a pile of snow, making a snowball, and throwing it at him.

“What was that for?” Roxas asked.

Naminé didn’t answer, she was looking up at the sky. “Wow, the sky... It seems there are more stars here than at school.”

Roxas looked up. Then Naminé fell back. Roxas fell back next to her. The two started laughing. When they sat up they looked at each other. Then Naminé looked away and stood up and started shaking the snow off her back. Roxas stood up after her. The two looked at each other once more then, out of the blue, they kissed.

My feelings for him are real. I know they are, because if they weren’t, we wouldn’t be doing this, Naminé said as she closed her eyes. Then, like someone had cued it all to happen, it started snowing again. The faint sound of Allie singing ‘1000 Words’ was heard.
